چکیده

Over the last few years, cross-layer design in wireless networks has drawn the attention of the research community, given the potential gains of such a paradigm, especially in the case of routing. Due to the specificities of wireless links (e.g., interferences, collisions, and fading), one of the arguments frequently exposed is that only hop-count as a metric is not enough. To overcome this issue, researchers aimed at making the routing layer more aware of the peculiarities of the physical layer. In this paper, we focus on ad hoc routing protocols running in the backbone of a wireless mesh networks. We evaluate the real improvements that cross-layer can bring to routing stability when compared to the simple hop-count metric. We focus on the stability of routes and the persistence of the five most used routes. One of our main findings is that in many situations the hop-count metric outperforms the cross-layer metric in terms of route stability, loop occurrences, and broken routes.

Cross-Layer Design of 802.11s-based Wireless Mesh Networks

Under the scope of improving the network performances in Wireless Mesh Network (WMN), a cross-layer design concerning channel allocation and routing algorithms is needed. IEEE 802.11 standard provides at least three non overlapping channels and thus, the possibility for the network in general and a node in particular, equipped with more than one network interface card (NIC), to operate on diffe...

Based on the Cross Layer Integrated Metric and Change of the Trigger Mechanism WMN Routing Protocol Design and Simulation

To improve the throughput and transmission quality of routing protocols for Wireless Mesh Networks, this paper presents a cross-layer routing protocol MCL-AODV for the wireless Mesh backbone networks. The protocol takes the quality of MAC layer link, node queue congestion degrees and wireless transmission distance into account through the cross-layer operating system, to optimize the routing se...

End-to-end throughput improvement for single radio multi-channel multi-path wireless mesh networks: a cross layer design

The distinguished feature of fixed backbone nodes in the wireless mesh networks (WMNs) can be utilized to design an efficient cross layer which cooperates routing and scheduling schemes for increasing end-to-end throughput. With only single radio nodes, by well designing the scheduling and routing schemes for multiple paths, we show that WMN can gain more throughput and reduce communication int...

Coefficient of Restitution based Cross Layer Interference Aware Routing Protocol in Wireless Mesh Networks

In Multi-Radio Multi-Channel (MRMC) Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN), Partially Overlapped Channels (POC) has been used to increase the parallel transmission. But adjacent channel interference is very severe in MRMC environment; it decreases the network throughput very badly. In this paper, we propose a Coefficient of Restitution based Cross layer Interference aware Routing protocol (CoRCiaR) to im...

Evaluation of Cross-Layer Rate-Aware Routing in a Wireless Mesh Network Test Bed

Real deployments of wireless multi-hop networks, by Internet Service Providers (ISP), have been slowed down by their poor performance and unreliability. The research community has already proved that efficient cross-layer routing, in particular rate-aware routing, can significantly improve performances. Nevertheless, this work has been done mainly by simulations, seldom being implemented in a r...
